MGE & MHP Controller Features

The MGE and MHP controllers used as standard by most Rheem systems offer a variety of useful features. The MGE is used for cooling only, cooling with electric heating or cooling with gas heating applications. The MHP is exclusively for heat pump applications.

Control Features

  • The basic display alternates between displaying the time and both the set and room temperatures.
  • The controller can be operated in FAN, COOL, HEAT or AUTO modes
  • The controller can be operated in FAN ON (fan works all of the time when the unit is on) or FAN AUTO (fan only operates when there is a demand for cooling or heating) modes.
  • The MGE and MHP have seven day time clocks and each day can have one or two start and stop times or just be operated non stop.

Control Sensor

The MGE and MHP have an inbuilt control sensor and a loose air temperature sensor which can be mounted in the unit return air stream or in the room depending upon the customers choice. If the internal sensor is to be used then the loose sensor can be disregarded. If the external sensor is to be used it should be wired into terminals T! and T1 in the controller and then internal controller jumper JP1 moved from position A to position B.

Controller Jumpers

Basic Wiring

Both the MGE and MHP use the Rheem 24V AC control circuit making them very safe to work on.

Alarm Options

The MGE and MHP have an inbuilt audible and visual alarm. This is initiated either by the temperature going outside of the high and low temperature limits set in the control parameters.

This can also be initiated by putting a 24V feed into terminal AUX inside the controller.

When the audible visual alarm is operative then an internal VF contact linking terminals AL and AL will close allowing for a remote fault indication.

Remote On / Off Operation

The controllers are delivered with a link between terminals RH and RH as standard.

Remove this link and wire these two terminals to a remote switch to give remote control of the system. With the link made the unit can run but with it broken the unit is locked out.
